In the past, his role was simply “technical director”. Instead, he is now a “Qualified Person”, which may seem a generic definition, but in reality is a figure dictated by law in accordance with requirements established by AIFA (EMA), requiring considerable preparation and skill, as is right for someone who has to take responsibility for all the procedures necessary for launching a pharmaceutical product on the market. As well as representing the company in relations with the Ministry of Health, Mauro is also the deputy manager for the pharmacovigilance team (DQPPV) and is the Feed/Food Division’s representative for HACCP (a method for assessing food risks to food safety).
While his job is delicate and complex, the path that led him to Dox-al was extremely linear. When he graduated in Biological Sciences, he lived in the vicinity of Correzzana, the Dox-al production site since the end of the Seventies. After his interview in 1994, he started the career that led him to “turn rules into experience”, in a daily balance between “thoughtfulness and authority”. He adheres to a principle that in the veterinary world is a kind of mantra: “the cure should not cost more than the patient”. Of the two elements, he believes that the most important is authority, which is only achievable if one “proves they understand the situation and are able to communicate this”.
Knowledge, skill and the presence of highly qualified colleagues are the values that Mauro experiences on a daily basis, together with a passion for quality and the enthusiasm he feels when “every day is different”, due to the variety of challenges that he has to face. The drive for constant improvement is a shared mentality and can be summed up with a word that is key to all of Dox-al’s activities: research. Constant investigation to overcome limitations and seek new horizons. “One always needs to give their all, rethink their attitude, show flexibility and elasticity in approaching problems”.
His multifaceted personality is also seen in his hobbies, which range from gardening, which “gives me energy and brings me to encounter the tangible essence of matter and the beauty of nature”, to swimming and trekking, which he also does alone. It is an activity in which Mauro renders the search for new horizons tangible, driven by what he defines as “positive restlessness”.
