At Dox-al since 1981, Alberto Rovera is a nutritional technician who has progressively specialised in beef cattle. However, his first role in the company was as a sales agent, although he was happy to give advice regarding his main professional sector. His entry at Dox-al was not definitive, as he left the company for a short period, to then return and stay for 40 years, and he is now approaching retirement. Known for his independent and impartial spirit, he also has an original opinion when it comes to animal welfare, a key matter for many companies in the zootechnical sector. “It is something that everyone talks about – he stated in his typical direct manner – but it is often seen as a duty and an imposition. It has never been this way for us, and we were demonstrating this as early as 2017, in the field, with the Cavour oasis in the province of Turin”.
An ideal place, where all the parameters, from space to ventilation, from the changing of litter to nutrition, were taken into consideration, in order to improve the quality of life for the animals, and consequently improving the quality of their produce. “Technically – he added – providing more space for the animals has little difference in terms of cost, but often breeders are not aware of this”. This is why it is important to have and to show a profound understanding of the subject, which fosters trust and favours long-term relationships, in which the client “embraces the company”. The value of competence is one of Dox-al’s strengths, along with solidity, reliability, including financial reliability, and the importance of its people, who “guarantee our continuity”.
At Dox-al, Alberto has also learned diplomacy – “something that does not come naturally to me”, he stressed with a certain irony, as well as how to manage interpersonal conflict. The company has allowed him to travel the world, and meet with university professors, researchers and speakers who have enriched his knowledge and his experience. His rigour and professionalism are expressed through every word he says, but there is also space for a smile, evoked by a memory. “I was invited to a formal party by Flavio Veneroni, but I forgot my jacket. Flavio’s wife gave me one of his, without him knowing. So, when I met him, I gave him a business card, and it was his”.
The founder of Dox-al had seen many things, but he had never had the surreal experience of being presented to himself.
